This time of year wet, dreary weather can start to sap our energy and enjoyment. There is not much we can do about it — short of moving to the tropics — but there are ways we can hack our rainy days, to make them more happier and more productive.
Do yoga daily, early
Daily yoga invigorates our body and mind, helping us cope better with life’s little challenges (like rain!) Practicing hot yoga or warm vinyasa flow yoga in the morning has the further advantage of getting you warmed up and in a positive frame of mind, first thing, so you can sail through the day.
Heat while you hydrate
Cold, wet days make it harder to drink enough liquids, as water and other cool beverages are less appealing. Herbal infusions are a great way to stay hydrated and keep yourself toasty from the inside out.
Get your Vitamin D
Our bodies need sunlight to produce vitamin D and during the rainy season we run the risk of deficiency. Since vitamin D is important for mental and physical well-being, it is a good idea to take a supplement during the winter.
Savour indoor pursuits
Instead of resenting the rain, embrace it as an opportunity to relish time indoors. Reading, watching films or catching up on series are all fun ways to pass the time. You could even take up (or continue) a hobby like drawing or knitting.
Cook for pleasure
What better way to while away
a rainy day than by preparing a special meal? When the days draw in, take the opportunity to try new recipes or revisit old favourites. Plus, cooking and baking is a wonderful way to warm your home.
