Summer is a great time to catch up on reading, what with all those holidays. Unless of course they’re yoga holidays and you’re busy teaching and/or participating!
What with running two Yoga Holiday With Paul retreats this year — and the Cyprus yoga holiday coming up fast — I haven’t had as much time for books lately. But I have had some good recommendations for my autumn reading list.
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: Our Year of Seasonal Eating is by American writer Barbara Kingsolver. My friend recommended it as a great book about the realities of low-impact, seasonal, local eating. Apparently Kingsolver, who was a scientist before she began writing, decided to test the practicality of only eating what was seasonal.
This is a great premise, because the fact is, a lot of us struggle to even know what is seasonal — we see the same fruit and veg in the shops year-round. To even begin to eat in season requires some reading. I’m sure Kingsolver’s book delves into many more issues, and I’m looking forward to having a chance to read it!
