What you eat is a critical part of your Bikram yoga practice. Nutrition is the raw material that allows your body to move, stretch, heal and grow, so I am always keen to add healthful foods to my diet.

Turmeric is a spice that is related to ginger, and is used a lot in Indian food. It also used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, to treat digestive and liver problems, skin diseases, and wounds. Its “active ingredient” is curcumin, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells and DNA by fighting free radicals. This means it can help protect against diseases of inflammation like heart disease, colitis, and osteoarthritis.

Next time you make a curry, add turmeric, or toss it into potato salad for extra vibrancy.
